I love Mizuno Wave Riders but I just recently began training in Hoka Cliftons and they’re making their way into my heart right now!

10.) What is your favorite race medal or award?

My Run Hard Marathon medal because it’s my first marathon medal. And it’s a tough double loop course so I’m pretty proud of myself for completing it as my first marathon.

11.) What race would you highly recommend?

The St. Jude Country Music Marathon and Half – I completed the half in 2014 and the experience was amazing. It was like one huge party the whole time. Plus it’s in Nashville!

12.) Have you ever bonked in a race?

Yes! The Virginia Beach Rock n Roll Half Marathon was a tough one for me. It was hot and humid. I thought I’d be fine since I live in SC and it’s always hot and humid here. Nope. I really struggled that race and walked a lot of it. It definitely was humbling.

13.1 miles. During my marathon training, I took short walking breaks to rehydrate and refuel, much like walking through the water stops in a race.

14.) Do you prefer running in the summer or winter?

Summer! But then again, I live in South Carolina so I’m used to the heat and humidity.

15.) What is a fun fact about you?

15 Questions with Brad Williams

Posted June 9th, 2015 by Brian Hock

Simple Hydration Run Team member Brad Williams (Golden, Colorado) answers 15 Questions.

1.) What is your favorite color?

Blue

2.) What is your favorite song right now?

I listen to quite a bit of music and have never been able to identify a favorite song. I will say that Sufjan Stevens’ new album Carrie and Lowell has been replayed repeatedly over the last month or so.

3.) What is your favorite book?

The Road by Cormac McCarthy.

4.) What is your favorite movie?

It’s hard to pick just one but Drive is up there.

5.) What is your favorite snack food?

Salty: salt and vinegar potato chips. Sweet: anything that combines chocolate and peanut butter.

6.) What is your favorite word?

I don’t think I have a favorite word but I do play a lot of Scrabble, I live on the edge like that, and my highest point score on a single word is Wrangle so I’ll have to go with that.

7.) What runner inspires you?

Anton Krupicka. I don’t see him as the fastest guy out there and he’s often injured but when it comes to passion and commitment he’s hard to beat.

8.) What is your favorite workout?

Any run that involves grinding up a mountain, pausing at the summit, and then bombing back downhill.

9.) What is your favorite running shoe?

Toss up between the Altra Superior 2.0 and the Salomon Sense Ultra 3.

10.) What is your favorite race medal or award?
I won a local 50k back home a few years ago and the trophy is a sheet metal foot that a local craftsman made. I like it because it’s very unique.

11.) What race would you highly recommend?

No doubt Telluride Mountain Run. It’s a big loop around Telluride with huge climbs, breath taking views, and limited aid. A true mountain run.

12.) Have you ever bonked in a race?
I have. There is a big learning curve in ultras. Especially when it comes to the nutrition side of things. I’m getting things dialed in but still have some work to do.

13.) How many miles have you covered without walking during a run or race?

That’s really hard to say as many of the runs or races I do have big climbs that I’m power hiking. My best guess would be about a marathon distance.

14.) Do you prefer running in the summer or winter?

I like both and run outside year round but things are just so much simpler in the summer so that is my preferred season.

15.) What is a fun fact about you?

I once lifted weights with the actor and comedian Carrot Top. He was passing through my hometown on a tour and we got hit by a huge snow storm so he stopped at our YMCA to workout. Just the two of us in the weight room on that snowy day has made for some fun memories.
