Simple Hydration recently had the honor of sponsoring the Team RWB (Red, White & Blue) Trail Running Camp. Team Red, White & Blue is a veteran support organization that works to help combat veterans reintegrate into their civilian communities. This Trail Running Camp is one program that helps accomplish that goal.
Eric Schranz (orange jacket), who produces ultrarunnerpodcast.com and is a big fan of the Simple Hydration Bottle, was a mentor this year and suggested we sponsor the camp. We’re glad he reached out, as we love to support the military. Eric had the following to say about his experience. “Team RWB really gives everyone a sense of community and family that’s genuine. The vets were also active in leadership classes where they can help others who may not seek out help, but who certainly need it.”
This year’s event took place November 14-17 along the Nueces River, about 2.5 hours outside San Antonio, Texas. Many top trail and ultra runners took part to help mentor both active and retired military personnel. Some of the elite runners included Max King (new 100K American Record holder), Meghan Arbogast, Jason Schlarb, Liza Howard, Dominic Grossman and Pam Smith to name a few. Over 60 military members took part and learned about technical running form, trail etiquette, first aid, injury prevention, nutrition and hydration management. Each camper took home a Simple Hydration Bottle.
One event at the camp was this very competitive and challenging obstacle course race (video below). Note that Max King won the race one week prior to his 100k World Championship and American Record 6:27 in Doha, Qatar. Impressive.
It’s an honor to support Team RWB and be connected with this awesome group of former and current military members. We hope that all the campers had a great time at this year’s camp. Read the post below to understand the impact of Team RWB and what it means to this veteran.
